The Best Browser Extensions for Finding Deals Automatically

The right browser extensions can save you hundreds without lifting a finger. The wrong ones slow your browser, steal your data, or don't work. Here's what's actually worth installing.

The Essential Extensions

Honey (Auto-Apply Codes)

What it does: Automatically tests discount codes at checkout.

Pros:

  • Zero effort - just click "Apply Honey"
  • Works on thousands of sites
  • Earns you "Honey Gold" points (redeemable for gift cards)

Cons:

  • Often doesn't find codes that CodeLand has (we're faster and more reliable)
  • Injects affiliate tracking into your purchases
  • Slows down checkout while cycling through expired codes

Verdict: Install it, but don't rely on it. Check CodeLand manually first.

Keepa / CamelCamelCamel (Amazon Price Tracking)

What it does: Shows Amazon price history on product pages.

Why it's essential: Amazon changes prices constantly. Keepa shows you if today's "deal" is actually cheaper than last month, or if it's fake.

How to use it: Install the extension, visit any Amazon product, see the price graph below the listing.

Verdict: Must-have if you shop on Amazon.

Pouch (Cashback + Codes)

What it does: Auto-activates cashback and applies discount codes.

Pros:

  • One extension for cashback + codes
  • Works with TopCashback and Quidco
  • Cleaner interface than Honey

Cons:

  • Smaller retailer coverage than Honey
  • Can conflict with manually clicked cashback links (you lose the cashback)

Verdict: Good alternative to Honey if you prefer less bloat.

Cashback Extensions

TopCashback Browser Button

What it does: Alerts you when you're on a site that offers cashback.

How it works: You land on ASOS. Extension pops up: "Activate 5% cashback." Click, shop, earn.

Verdict: Useful reminder if you forget to click through cashback sites manually.

Quidco Assistant

Same as TopCashback's extension. Install whichever cashback site you prefer.

Price Comparison Extensions

InvisibleHand (Price Comparison)

What it does: Scans other retailers while you're shopping and shows cheaper options.

Example: You're on Currys looking at a £300 laptop. InvisibleHand pops up: "Amazon has it for £275."

Verdict: Handy, but can be annoying with constant popups. Turn it off when you're just browsing.

Karma (Shopping Assistant)

What it does: Tracks prices, alerts you to drops, and applies codes automatically.

Verdict: Similar to Honey but less well-known. Try it if Honey isn't finding codes.

The Dangerous Ones (Avoid)

Obscure "Coupon" Extensions

Extensions with names like "SuperSaver" or "MegaCoupons" are usually:

  • Data harvesters (they track everything you do)
  • Ad injectors (replace legit ads with their own)
  • Scams (codes never work, they just collect commissions)

How to spot them: Few reviews, generic name, permissions request is massive (access to ALL websites).

Rule: Stick to well-known extensions (Honey, Keepa, Pouch). Ignore the rest.

Privacy Considerations

Every extension that "helps you save" is also tracking your purchases and earning affiliate commissions.

What they see:

  • What you buy
  • How much you spend
  • Which retailers you use

What they do with it: Aggregate data to sell trends, target ads, or improve their recommendations.

Is it sketchy? Debatable. You're trading privacy for convenience. If you're fine with that, use them. If not, bookmark CodeLand and check manually.

Do Extensions Actually Save You More Than Manual Searching?

Honest answer: Sometimes.

Honey finds codes 30-40% of the time. CodeLand finds codes 70-80% of the time because we curate and test them.

Best strategy:

  1. Check CodeLand first (1 minute, higher success rate)
  2. If no code, let Honey try (no extra effort)
  3. If neither works, the code probably doesn't exist

Mobile: Extensions Don't Work

Browser extensions are desktop-only. On mobile:

  • Use the Honey app (limited functionality)
  • Manually visit CodeLand before shopping
  • Use retailer apps (they often have exclusive codes)

How to Install Extensions Safely

  1. Only install from official stores: Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons, Safari Extensions Gallery
  2. Check reviews: 1,000+ reviews = probably legit. 10 reviews = sus.
  3. Review permissions: "Access all websites" is normal for shopping extensions. "Access your passwords" is not.
  4. Update regularly: Extensions with security holes get patched. Keep them updated.

The CodeLand Alternative: No Extension Needed

We built CodeLand specifically so you don't need an extension cluttering your browser.

Bookmark codeland.uk. Before checking out anywhere, CMD+T (new tab), type "codeland [brand name]", hit enter. Takes 5 seconds, finds better codes than Honey 70% of the time.

Why we don't have an extension (yet): We'd rather focus on quality codes than tracking your browsing.

Best Combination

For maximum savings:

  1. Keepa - Amazon price history (essential)
  2. TopCashback button - Cashback reminders
  3. Honey - Backup code tester
  4. CodeLand bookmark - Manual check before checkout

That's it. Four tools, minimal bloat, maximum savings.
