Cookie Policy
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences and enable certain features.
How we use cookies
CODELAND.UK uses cookies in three categories. You can manage your preferences at any time using the cookie banner or by clearing your browser cookies.
1. Essential cookies (always active)
These cookies are required for the site to function and cannot be disabled.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| session | CODELAND.UK | Authentication token (httpOnly) — keeps you logged in | 30 days |
| logged_in | CODELAND.UK | Indicates login status to the frontend (not httpOnly, contains no sensitive data) | 30 days |
| cookie-consent | CODELAND.UK | Stores your cookie preferences (localStorage) | Persistent |
| cf_turnstile_* | Cloudflare | CAPTCHA-free bot verification on forms | Session |
| __cf_bm, cf_clearance | Cloudflare | DDoS protection and security | 30 minutes |
2. Analytics cookies (optional)
With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use our site. These cookies are only set if you click “Accept All” or enable analytics in the cookie preferences.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes unique visitors | 2 years | |
| _ga_* | Maintains session state | 2 years |
Google Analytics data is anonymised (IP anonymisation is enabled). Google may transfer data outside the UK/EEA — see Google's Privacy Policy.
3. Affiliate cookies (set on interaction)
When you use a discount code through the CodeLand Saver extension that saves you money, our affiliate partner Awin may set a tracking cookie.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| aw* | Awin | Tracks affiliate referrals — only set when a code genuinely saves you money | Up to 30 days |
4. Marketing cookies (optional)
We do not currently use marketing or advertising cookies. If this changes in the future, they will only be set with your explicit consent, and this policy will be updated.
Local storage
We also use browser local storage for:
- Cookie consent preferences — remembers your cookie choices
- PWA install prompt state — remembers if you dismissed the install prompt
- Push notification subscription — if you opt in, a service worker is registered to receive and display notifications. You can revoke notification permission in your browser settings at any time.
Local storage data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers with each request.
Managing your preferences
You can change your cookie preferences at any time:
- Cookie banner: Click the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer of any page to review and change your preferences. You can also clear your browser cookies for codeland.uk to reset all preferences.
- Browser settings: Most browsers let you view, delete, and block cookies. See your browser's help pages for instructions.
- Google Analytics opt-out: Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Note: Blocking essential cookies will prevent you from logging in.
Legal basis
Under UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), essential cookies do not require consent as they are strictly necessary for the site to function. Analytics and marketing cookies require your explicit consent, which we obtain through our cookie banner.
